WE’RE ALWAYS THERE

The Police Service

The Police run a searchable database called IDENT1. This database contains the fingerprints of around 6 million UK citizens, and the DNA of around 3 million.

IDENT1 retains the fingerprints and DNA of suspects found guilty, and innocent alike. The Police service even retains fingerprints taken at the roadside for identification purposes.

In 2008, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that these databases could not be justified, and contravened Article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights; the right to privacy.

This database remains active today.
